Yorkshire Belle

#Bempton #Cliffs is well known to photographers, bird watchers and to those who enjoy walking the coastal paths of #East #Yorkshire, less well known are the RSPB #boat trips to those same cliffs on the #Yorkshire #Belle out of Bridlington.

The tour gives a completely different view of the cliffs and more importantly the #birds who make them their home for the breeding season. There are numerous members of the Auk family - Puffins, Guillemots and Razorbills but the star attraction is the #Gannets.

The Yorkshire Belle runs regular trips out of #Bridlington but what is special about the three/four times a year #RSPB runs is, as well as seeing the cliffs at close hand and seeing the #magnificent birds there is a huge haul of fish on board which is carefully thrown into the water, allowing a close up view of the incredible #diving abilities of the Gannets.

Gannets hunt fish by diving into the sea from a height of up to 30 m (100 ft) and pursuing their prey underwater, they can achieve speeds of 100 km/h (60 mph) as they strike the water, enabling them to catch fish at a much greater depth than most airborne birds.

All in all an incredible spectacle and an amazing challenge for a photographer.
