Master Photographer
FRPS, FSWPP, CrSWPP
Tom Lee is a British fine art and portrait photographer whose work combines traditional photographic craft with a contemporary visual sensibility. Over more than four decades he has developed a thoughtful and reflective approach to image-making, often drawing on historic processes to create photographs that feel both timeless and immediate.
Internationally recognised for his technical knowledge and artistic exploration, Tom first gained distinction through his expertise in digital capture and printing before gradually returning to earlier photographic methods. His current practice centres on historic and alternative processes including wet plate, orotone and hand-coated printing techniques, which encourage a slower and more deliberate engagement with subject and material.
Alongside his personal work, Tom has lectured, written and exhibited widely, sharing his experience with photographers at all stages of their development. Today his focus is on making, writing, teaching and exhibiting, sustaining an ongoing exploration of photography as both craft and expressive language.
