Sometimes doing something, anything, with a camera pays off. Last week whilst holidaying in the #Yorkshire #Dales I dropped my wife off at #Castle #Bolton car park where she was meeting up with a Walking Group. She would be #trekking all day which meant I had the day and my camera to myself. I intended to head towards the nearest #moorland to see if I could shoot some #Curlews. I had not driven more than a few hundred meters when I saw a #dilapidated stone #barn in the middle of a field. Figuring it may make an interesting shot, especially with the Castle in the background, I grabbed my camera bag from the boot, clambered over a style and set off......
What I stumbled upon was far far better than the shot I had contemplated, there were numerous Rabbits scurrying around and whilst trying to creep around them to get better light I further first stumbled upon a seriously laid back #brown #sheep and then upon a pair of #Red #Legged #Partridges, who remained startled long enough for me to get a few shots off.
Then things got seriously interesting. The derelict barn, it turns out, is home to a pair of #Redstarts who, judging by the furious pace at which they visited with beaks full of #insects, must have a nest full of hungry #chicks.
My new 200-800 lens allowed me to keep a respectful distance but I was able to get some wonderful shots.
It wasn’t yet 9.30 am and I was thinking ‘this day can not get any better’.
PS it did, but thats for next time.
