Wilson Trophy 2025

As mentioned this time last year, the Wilson Trophy is a favourite event of mine, with the drama and colours of a dinghy race in close proximity. For my particular passions of abstract and impressionist photography, it gives the opportunity for both in a concentrated time period. Unlike last year, when the West Kirby Marine Lake was like a mirror due to the absence of wind, 2025 brought stiff breezes, overcast conditions and a choppy lake.
The Firefly dinghies are sailed with competitors from around the world, competing with sails of different colours to distinguish the different teams. I must confess to no clue as to what actually goes on within a race, however!

The vivid colours allow for both movement in a vertical plane (above), to produce the abstract photographs, and the horizontal plane (below), to show the excitement and movement of the race, resulting in a more impressionist feel to the finished picture.

Needless to say, I'll be back next year...
