The Archipelago of Lofoten juts across and into the clear waters of the Norwegian Sea, way above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers an untrammelled landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords, squawking seabirds, long, surf-swept beaches and small, interesting fishing villages. It has become a haven for photographers and I could not wait to join their ranks.

Which is exactly what I had to do however, the 2023 and 24 courses were booked up and so I signed up to visit February 2025. (Time, I guess, to clean my gear and polish my lenses).

I set off from Manchester Airport for the first of 3 flights that would get me to Lofoten. The forecasts hadn’t been great on the run up to leaving as warm heavy clouds had removed the all the snow from the landscape. Luckily, that changed on the eve of my visit and a cold front brought with it lots of snow which turned Lofoten into a breathtaking, Winter Wonderland. The temperature hovered between -9 and -2 and the clear night Skys gave us ample opportunities to witness spectacular Auroal displays.

Everywhere you looked there were majestic fjords backed by snow covered mountains, we saw Eagles every day and on one occasion as we walked around the fishing village of Nusfjord, a pod of 8 Orca surfaced.

The week sped by. I've been back now for just over a week, if I sign up to go again it will be for 2028….. Watch this space.
Fantastic images, Barry, excellent place to go to. I would think I've never been there, but you make it look definitely like a place to go to, thanks for the excellent blog.
