Following on from #Barry’s previous post, I find it amazing that three photographers can visit the same locations and experience completely #different #visions of the environment based on their photographic ‘bent’.

As a primarily B&W worker, I tend to look for a more #pictorial aspect of the trip based on #shape, #form and #texture, despite the Illuminations being on at #Blackpool. Expecting much (based on childhood memories), I couldn’t have been more disappointed at how Blackpool particular had seemed to ‘let itself go!’ The colourful aspects of the #lights did little to lift my spirits, however I still came away with plenty of #images to quiet my dismay.

After a brief stop in #Fleetwood, where I discovered that the fishing fleet I had expected to find had vanished, leaving only memories of a more prosperous past, we moved onto #Cleveleys. Not too far up the road, it had a more #pleasing disposition and we were graced with a beautiful #sky along the #promenade, where I managed a more productive set of captures.

Then onto Blackpool. On the #Golden #Mile, much seemed as I had remembered it with colourful lights and a #bustling frontage filled with excited kids and frustrated parents! However, on the adjoining and parallel streets, the true face of the #town was evident. Hotels and businesses had obviously seen better times and I wondered if anyone could be enterprising enough to revive (or even afford the rents) for these historic establishments.

On a brighter note, we probably found the best fish and Chip shop on the front. ‘Papas’ our hats go off to you.

Les, who took a more tradition film approach to our trip will follow with his report (when he finds somewhere to get his stuff developed!)
Excellent set of images Tom. Sum up the day perfectly
